July is here and the fish are really feeding on top, and what a wonderful start to Summer, start, thats right, it's been wet and cool. Well, the water has dropped, and the fish yesterday were feeding on top, large 'pods' of browns feeding in pretty swallow water, very nice sized fish, podded and eating .This coming week could be stellar, it is warming, and some precip is on the way, Caddis weather... It is getting warmer and the fishing is pretty darn Good! Oh did I mention Hoppers! Yes, the hopper fishing has started, and it looks like a stellar season! Big browns eating hoppers! PMD"S and Caddis are still going strong and the Trico's are getting started! Dry fly heaven! Plus, the nymphing has been excellent, the river is full of very large fish. Streamer fishing fun before all the weeds start up. Caddis, are the game, and PMD cripples are working really well on the cloudy days, caddis are popping, #16 tan, .The Caddis can be grey bodies #14, or smaller tan caddis # 16 or even # 18.GNats in sizes #16-20, cripple midge(Black) #18. And, Nymphing deep and slow, with beaded nymphs , anything small and pink #16-22 , ( Zebra's, PT's, Brassies, sow bugs, small # 16-22),even larger nymphs(scuds, worms,oh did I mention WORMS... stone flies, sizes #12-16) will produce ...Streamers fished deep and slow, will produce big browns of gold...Check my fly selection for patterns.
